Proposal to give illegal street racers a place to race their cars legally for free sign now

After much thinking about the many laws, rules, fines, and punishments that are being thrown on to street racing as of late, I believe that this is unconstitutional to take away the freedom of horsepower. On one hand, yes, many irresponsible people are making wrong choices in how to use their car. I hear stories about highways being shut down in the middle of the night for illegal street racing. Stories are heard of crowds of people gathering for races, mobbing streets, and putting their lives, and others, in danger.

In certain places in the country, if you are arrested racing your car, your car is taken from you, along with your licence and you go to jail. You can be fined for even watching a street race, and you can be fined for even suggesting it.

My proposal is that each state should adopt a program to fight street racing, through sponsoring races of their own, which would be legal. No entry fee required, no waivers signed. 1/4 mile drag strips could be built by the state, and would be open to the public for use, much like some cities have built skate parks, to keep their children from skating on the streets and putting themselfs and others in danger. A sign would have to be put up explaining the facilities and the extent of their use, but it is my firm belief that the best way to lower the amount of street racing, and deaths and injuries related to them, is to create a medium between illegal street racing, and pay to race at 1/4 mile tracks... A place where races can occur for free, built and maintained by the state.

Personally, owning a sports car myself, I do not race on city streets. However, the closest legal place to race my car is two and a half hours of a drive away. I can see why some people would want to just race on a street, and not have to drive an obscenely long distance, just to race.

Lets keep the races off our city streets, and come to an agreement between the people who race, and those who condemn it.
