Prevent the Relocation of Nicholas Lounge Residents sign now

To Whom It May Concern:

It has come to the attention of the residents of Nicholas Residence Hall that the residents currently living in study lounges will be required to move to alternative housing, be it on Cook/Douglass or elsewhere.

The residents of Nicholas Residence Hall find this unacceptable. Throughout the past semester, the residents of Nicholas Residence Hall have become a tight knit community. If you walk through the halls of Nicholas you will see its residents conversing together at all hours, or you can head off to Neilson Dining Hall where it is almost guaranteed that there will be a Nicholas resident sitting with other Nicholas residents at a table. We are not merely a group of students living in the same building; we are a family.

Rutgers Housing claims that these residents must be relocated because the study lounges need to return to their original purpose, a place for residents to study, but these study lounges lost their original purpose the first day of the Fall Semester of 2008 when approximately two thundered fifty random freshman moved into Nicholas, and two hundred fifty freshman became a family.

The residents who live in these study lounges make up an important part of the Nicholas Hall Community. Many are RHA members, elected by the residents of Nicholas Hall to represent them in the RHA, yet they are being told that they are not indeed a part of this community and must move.

The Residents of Nicholas Hall do not need study lounges. We already have lounges in which we study, one on each floor. Just visit one of these lounges before a dreaded Biology exam, or the infamous Chemistry web assignment, and you will see that Nicholas Hall has no need for more study lounges. We however do need the residents that make up our great close-knit community, all of them.

Nicholas Hall's residents do not wish to see close members of their community forced to move from their residence hall. Housing wishes to turn these rooms into study lounges, but we, the undersigned, do not need nor want these study lounges and therefore will not use them. We are a community, and these rooms are the bedrooms of members of this community, as such we will not enter them without permission from its occupants.

Room Number 207 Not only is this move wrong because students are being forced out of a place where they have created friendships and become comfortable but also the school has not been paying them for having to live in the temporary housing as promised.

Room Number 325 These people are part of our family. We do not need more study space; we need our brothers and sisters. Do NOT kick them out of what has become our home.

Room Number 242 Moving the students from their homes for the year is unacceptable. It was even said to one of the rooms that they would have the "option" to change rooms. The students residing in the "study lounges" add personality and color to Nicholas

Room Number 142 Personally, I think it is insulting to the individuals who live in the triplet dorms to move after developing tight relationships with others in the building. It undermines what Rutgers community stands for and every connection we have bu

Room Number 143 I am living in one of the triplets. I was told I'm now being moved to Livingston and I'm frustrated, because I talked with someone from housing for 15 minutes a month or so ago, and they told me that I would be staying on the Cook/Douglas
