Prevent Caylee's Law sign now

"This "Caylee's Law" idea is a terrible one at best. I understand the sentiment that people have in trying to make it happen, but sentiment is not always logical.

First of all, 24 hours? Terrible amount of time, what happens when innocent parents don't KNOW their child is missing and think only that they are safe and playing at a friend's house?

Second; why should they be punished for ignorance? I am well aware that there are millions of people out there ignorant of the world around them, and it makes me terribly upset, but that doesn't mean they should be punished for it. It's because of the insane number of laws of this caliber that we HAVE that kind of ignorance in this nation. There is no pressure to think for yourself, so living by the law becomes like laying in a hammock. You've got other people doing the thinking for you and you just go through the motions, when you should be forced to stand on your own feet and think for yourself.

If anything, we should be going through the lawbooks and eliminating the unnecessary, the blithe, and the redundant. There are terrible things people do to each other in this world, but we should hold them AND ourselves personally accountable and stop shipping good people off to prison so we don't have to think about them.

Most of the crimes in this world are better dealt with through education and therapy, not prison time. All you're doing is handing them over to a building full of people who have committed crimes and, at best, you're taking away their self-respect, at worst, you're giving them over to a place full of fantastic teachers who can teach them what not to do and how not to get caught.

It's terrible that people can be so easily manipulated into signing a petition like this and we need to stop ignorance from trumping sense."
