Preserve Lansdowne Street sign now

(written by Liz Zwicker)

This petition has been created in response to an article printed in the April 21st, 2007 edition of the Boston Globe by the music fans and attendees of Avalon and Axis on Lansdowne Street both as a music venue and dance club. This article has brought to our attention that plans are being developed to replace Avalon and Axis with one larger venue. We have created this petition in order to convey our belief that these two venues are important to the city of Boston as individual structures.

Separately, these venues can hold two different concerts in one night, followed by the opening of the clubs for dancing. Avalon can hold approximately 2,100 people while Axis holds roughly 1,100. Bands that cannot sell enough tickets to fill Avalon to capacity are able to play Axis, which is conveniently located right next door. This offers music fans one familiar and easy-to-find place to attend concerts. Additionally, with the elimination of Axis, the aforementioned smaller bands will have to find other places to play. With two venues that hold different amounts of people, bands can play the appropriate-sized venue for their fanbases. Unsold tickets constitute a loss for both the bands and the venues.

We feel that Avalon and Axis provide the best places in Boston for live music, and losing one or both of them would not be to any involved party's advantage. We find that the sound quality and atmosphere of Avalon and Axis concerts are superior to a majority of places in Boston and feel strongly that they should both remain in operation.

We feel that both venues have a place in the hearts of avid concertgoers for all of these reasons, and we hope this plea will gain your deliberation and help you to understand our desire to keep Avalon and Axis in their current state as adjacent venues.

Thank you for your consideration,

I've never been to the axis, but i love the Avalon, and it would deeply sadden me if it was replaced with something else

If you loose these clubs you loose the entire music scene.

Save these great clubs! I've been to many shows at both, and it would be terrible to see them be demolished.

I love the Avalon for its quaintness. Its size allows the fans to really connect with one another as well as the preformers. Please don't break that connection by tearing down the Avalon and Axis!!!

I've seen some of the greatest shows and bands play there. Tearing those venues down would destroy such a significant part of the Boston music scene. It was bad enough when they closed down CB's, they don't have to do it to Boston too.
