Practice What Your Preach sign now

The bible, which you [George Bush] regard as your favourite book, contains the message "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone". This is one of the better known lessons from the bible and is intended as a warning against hypocrisy but, like so many other lessons in the bible, is disregarded by the very people who use religion to justify their own agendas.

Most would agree that, for instance, a man with a drinking problem has no place preaching to drug addict about his sinful life and vice versa. Indeed, the mentality stretches to the courtroom. A witness's credibility will be questioned in an attempt to undermine his or her testimony.

The concept is easy to understand and people, religious or not, use it on a day-to-day basis.

You and your government seem incapable of getting your heads around this concept however. How you believe you can carry out wars against human rights violators (remember this is now the only reason we went to Iraq that hasnt turned out to be wrong) whilst at the same time violating human rights is beyond me.

The world has seen guerrilla fighting emerge over the last 50 years on many occasions and each time the guerrillas have eventually won because of their willingness to take things one step further than their opponents. This mentality has evolved into the suicide bombers we see today. Where the organised armies of the West and Russia have their vast troop numbers and technological superiority the guerrilla fighters have their suicide bombers.

Many in the West regard this as a cowardly form of fighting and they may be right but from a tactical point of view it is very effective. It is hard, even with our technology and troop numbers, to defend against people who are willing to blow themselves up.

The same could be assumed of the beheadings that we know see. The first beheading was in May of this year, the month following the Abu Ghraib story breaking.

Whatever you do the guerrillas will come back harder. They have to.

Because of this we demand that you begin to treat the detainees at Guantanamo Bay in accordance with the Geneva Convention. Not only is it the correct thing to do from the stand point of basic human decency but it will send a message to the potential terrorists of the world that the US is not a hypocritical rouge state that doesnt practice what it preaches.

You cannot fight extremism with extremism.
