Petition to Re-evaluate and Revise the Quiet Hours Policy of Straugn Hall sign now

Whereas the current enforceable quiet hours of Straughn Hall are as follows:
Sunday Saturday, 11 p.m. 7 a.m.,

Whereas the current quiet hours mandate quiet during the weekends where the majority of permanent residents of Straughn Hall do not take classes,

Whereas the current quiet hours do not account for the late hour that classes end during the school week and therefore do not promote fellowship during those times,

Whereas the current quiet hours are not sensitive to permanent residents who prefer to sleep past 7 a.m.,

Whereas the majority of permanent residents of Straughn Hall are not awake or participating in fellowship or communal activities, and thus not creating a disturbance before 9 a.m.,

We, the undersigned permanent residents of Straughn Hall do hereby petition the Faculty, Staff, and Administration of Wesley Theological Seminary to review the following conditions in order to re-evaluate the current policies for residence in Straughn Hall:

Re-evaluate and revise the enforceable quiet hours on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and set them to the following hours: 12 midnight 8 a.m.,

Re-evaluate and revise the quiet hour policy to allow each floor to revise the quiet hours as each floor deems necessary and appropriate to the floors specific context and demographic.

We, the undersigned permanent residents of Straughn Hall do hereby support the aforementioned conditions because of the following reasons:

The current quiet hours are reasonable during the weekdays and, at this time, require no revision.

The current quiet hours are unreasonable and are not conducive to building community during the weekends when the majority of permanent residents of Straughn Hall are not engaged in studies.

The current quiet hours policy on the weekends do not promote building community on campus during the weekends and therefore encourage and reinforce the need for students to leave campus to build relationships and thus creates a situation where students are outside of the relatively safe and controlled environment of the Wesley Theological Seminary campus.

The current setup of residents in Straughn Hall contains permanent and non-permanent residents in relatively compartmentalized situations, therefore, an umbrella policy for quiet hours is insensitive and does not take into account the individual needs of the different types of resident status (e.g. permanent, non-permanent / commuter),
