Petition to Protect Trophy Catfish in Alabama sign now

The signers of this petition urge the Alabama DCNR to generate new laws that would protect our trophy sized catfish. This is not a petition to eliminate commercial fishing, only a movement to protect our larger fish that are decades old. We are tired of seeing our trophy catfish trapped, netted, or hooked and sold live, across state lines, to pay ponds only to live a short time thereafter. Exploiting these fish should limited.

We the signers of this petition propose the following to protect our trophy catfish from being taken from our waters:

1.) Allow only 1 catfish over 34 in possession per person per day
2.) Recognize catfish as a gamefish species. Alabama is one of few states that still do not recognize catfish as a game fish.
3.) No transport of live catfish over the state lines.

I live in Tennessee, but I feel the fishing for trophy fish in Alabama would improve with stricter regulations. It seems to have made an impact here in Tennessee.
