PETITION TO NAME A MT HOOD NATIONAL FOREST TRAIL FOR HOWARD RONDY RONDTHALER

To: Forest Supervisor, Mt. Hood National Forest

We, the undersigned, propose that the Mt Hood National Forest designate a trail on the Mt Hood National Forest or in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area as The Rondy Trail in honor of Howard Mayro Rondy Rondthaler. This action would recognize Rondys career achievements, including:
- Managing the trails system on the Mt Hood National Forest and in the Columbia River Gorge in the 1970s and 1980s;
- Improving on an existing trails system to ensure its beauty and usefulness;
- Ensuring that Mt Hood NF trails are accessible, safe and well-marked;
- Providing a variety of hiking challenges, from easy to arduous, including trails that are accessible for the mobility-challenged;
- Enhancing views along the trail for the hikers enjoyment;
- Locating abandoned trails and bringing them up to contemporary standards;
- Leading the work on the portion of the Pacific Crest Trails that goes through the Mt Hood National Forest; and
- Generally promoting hiking National Forest Service trails

Rondys entire Forest Service career was on the Mt Hood National Forest. He was THE trails man during the 1970s and 1980s and naming a trail for him would inspire others to preserve, protect and hike our National Forests.

    Rondy's knowledge of the Mt Hood trail system was incredible! He knew every foot of every trail. Anyones who hikes on the MHNF benefits from his decades of dedication to the Forest.
