Petition for remastered DVD sets that preserve the originally indented aspect ratio of DBZ sign now

FUNimation, DBZ fans understand and appreciate, not only the investment, but the great strides forward that this set represents for the show on R1 DVD. The series is now more affordable than ever, features revised uncut English audio, and even includes an option to listen to that new dialogue with the original Japanese music. Fans have been clamoring for these things, and we are absolutely receptive to these changes.

Unfortunately, one thing fans have not been asking for is a widescreen presentation, especially a forced one which removes a sizable percentage of previously visible imagery. Series fans, and potential customers, are well aware that this new widescreen presentation is an artificial one and the result of substantial cropping of content. We understand that a lot of effort went into remastering DBZ, but it would be a shame to see that hard work squandered on anything less than a comprehensive release...A true "definitive collection". While the new remaster purports to show the series "the way it was meant to be seen," it is actually seen as being rather disrespectful to the source material. The series was framed to be viewed on television in a 4:3 aspect ratio which should unquestionably be preserved on DVD. The remastered sets have been billed as having "no compromises," yet the vast majority of fans view the loss of the shows careful composition and previously viewable foreground art as a major, unreasonable, indefensible, compromise.

Fans of DBZ would like a remastered DVD set with a 4:3 presentation which correctly reflects the series originally intended aspect ratio.

In recent years FUNimation has garnered the reputation of a company that cares and really listens to the fans. FUNimation, the undersigned are the fans...Please show us just how much you care by listening to our concerns.
