Petition for better security measures at Kensington Crossings Apartments sign now

01/27/2011

We, the residents of Kensington Crossings Apartments, located at 14651 Philippine Street, Houston, TX 77040, are concerned with the number of break ins and robberies that occur at our apartment complex every week. We are being as safe as we can, by using alarm systems, letting management know about suspicious people, and looking out for each other; and now we feel it is the managements job to put forth some measures to stop these crimes that are plaguing our complex. We pay for luxurious apartments, and with the rental price we are made to pay, expect a higher level of security than at lower end apartments.

We are especially concerned that a majority of these break ins occur during normal business hours from 9-5 Monday-Friday when the office is open and management is on the property. How are we to secure our homes when we are at work and anyone can come onto the property?

We need the management to take control of this situation and assure that its residents are as secure and safe as they possibly can be. Its why we pay extra money to live in higher end apartments and these security breaches cannot be allowed to continue.

Some of our suggestions for better security measures are as follows:

1. Hire a security agent to patrol the property ON FOOT during the day when most of the break ins happen.
2. Have a better gate system that does not allow people who are not residents or welcome guests to enter the complex so easily.
3. Install security monitors so that people who are committing these crimes can be caught and persecuted. Security cameras will also help discourage crimes from happening in the first place.
4. Install better lighting around the complex, especially near the back, to discourage crimes and car thefts and to make us feel safer at night.
5. Run background checks on both employees and residents to assure that people with violent pasts arent allowed into the complex.
6. Initiate a no solicitation policy to keep unwanted people from accessing our complex in order to hang flyers on our doors and to scope out the complex.
7. The management has to stop putting flyers on our door during the day as this just lets criminals know that the tenant is not home.
8. Install chain locks on our front door in order to provide more safety when we open our doors. Also, provide a second dead bolt lock that can be locked from the outside so it is harder for criminals to kick open our doors.
9. Install a better barricade on the east side of the complex as numerous people have been seen jumping over the fence from the adjoining apartment complex.
10. Enforce the permit parking system, and create a clear and marked place for residents to park, so we arent stuck walking across the apartment complex late at night to get to our home.
11. Remove the sign advertising the cost of the apartments on the corner of Beltway 8 and Philippine St. This just allows criminals to know that the residents of this complex are more affluent than surrounding complexes.
