Petition concerning TA matters sign now

Dear Art Historians,

One of the results that came out of the meeting this evening was the idea to disseminate among the graduate students in our department a petition that opposes the proposed changes to the teaching loads beginning next academic year. Building on the previous suggestion that we not "mix apples with oranges"--i.e., don't muddy the basic issue of excessive or lack of teaching opportunities for students with that of an university-wide overhaul of graduate-student requirements--this petition only opposes an increase in sections for which those in their second and third year in the program would be responsible. It does not address the possibility of advanced graduate students leading their own classes in their fifth, sixth, or seventh years. By signing this petition, you show your support (anonymously; I have chosen the option of just revealing the numbers of those who sign, not the identities, but you do have the option of leaving comments as well) of keeping intact the one-section-per-semester load for second and third years, and thereby preserving teaching opportunities for advanced graduate students.
