Petitie pentru asigurarea dreptului de vot al cetatenilor romani din diaspora - Petition for voting rights or Romanian citizens living abroad sign now

Versiunea in limba romana (Romanian language version):

Le solicitam totodata sprijinul in rezolvarea acestei situatii!

Totusi, in eventualitatea in care Guvernul Romaniei va alege sa nu creeze conditii decente in care romanii din diaspora sa isi poata manifesta preferinta in cadrul Referendumului din 19 Mai, va avertizam ca va vom actiona in instanta la Curtea Europeana a Drepturilor Omului!

English version:

Petition to the Romanian Foreign Affairs Department, Romanian Prime Ministers Office as well as Romanian Parliament

In the name of over 4 million Romanian citizens eligible to vote that live abroad, we ask the Romanian Foreign Affairs Department as well as the Romanian Prime Minister and the Romanian Parliament to urgently find practical solutions that will allow the Romanians living abroad to cast their vote in the upcoming National Referendum on May the 19th.

We draw your attention on the fact that the number of polling stations available for the May 19th Referendum is utterly insufficient to allow for all Romanians living abroad to vote! There are big communities that do not have access to even a single polling station! It is imperative to find a legislative solution to remedy this GRAVE deficiency!

Our request is based on the following articles of the Romanian Constitution:

Article 7
The State shall support the strengthening of links with the Romanians living abroad and shall act accordingly for the preservation, development and expression of their ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious identity, under observance of the legislation of the State of which they are citizens.

Article 17
Romanian citizens while abroad shall enjoy the protection of the Romanian State and shall be bound to fulfill their duties, with the exception of those incompatible with their absence from the country.

Article 34
(1) Every citizen having attained the age of eighteen by or on the election day shall have the right to vote.
(2) Mentally deficient or alienated, laid under interdiction, as well as persons disenfranchised by a final decision of the court cannot vote.

We also kindly ask the European Parliament as well as the European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security to take note of this unacceptable situation for a member state of the European Union. We ask for your support in solving this situation!

We remind the politicians in Bucharest that we are NOT second rank citizens and that for sure we shall NOT accept to be treated as such!
We strongly believe that the Romanian Government will seek reasonable, legal solutions that will entitle all Romanians from abroad to vote.
The VOTE, dear politicians, is a RIGHT not a PRIVILEGE!
The VOTE is the very FOUNDATION of Democracy!

The Romanians from abroad have always been (in their vast majority) good citizens of Romania. Every year we contribute with roughly 4 billion euros to Romanias economical recovery. In return, we ask you to respect our right to VOTE!

However in case our Government will choose not to create decent conditions so that the Romanians from abroad can cast their vote in the National referendum from May the 19th we warn you that we are prepared to take this case to the European Court for Human Rights!
