Peterborough For Equality sign now

Dear Peter Adams,

We, The Undersigned, respectfully petition the government to respect and support the diversity of its citizens in all their walks of life. We urge you to whole-heartedly support the legislation modernizing the definition of marriage to include same-sex partners.

For years policy regarding the equality of homosexuals has slowly been updated, following suit with our society's growing affirmation of our countrys multiculturalism. Today we are faced with another hurdle. We must now recognize the rights of our gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, two-spirited brothers, sisters, mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, aunts, and uncles to express their love for one another in no less a manner than that currently afforded to the heterosexual populace.

Earlier this year Mayor Sylvia Sutherland proclaimed September 13 2003 as Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual Trans-gendered, Transsexual, Two-spirited Pride Day. As you yourself were there to see, the days festivities were a huge success, well attended, and celebrated in a most positive manner. It is clear that we no longer live in an age of prejudice. As such we urge you take an active stance supporting the legislation legalizing same-sex marriage.

We thank you for your support in this matter,
Sincerely The Undersigned,

I think it's time to be sensitive to the needs of all Canadians. Marriage to me is the legalization of a union of two people. Choosing a religious union does not elliminate the need for a marriage license issued by government. It's time to remember that c
