To Magazine Retailers:

This includes but is not limited to book stores, grocery stores, and any other retailer displaying magazines with inappropriate content in plain sight.

My family and I recently visited Barnes and Noble in Roseville, CA. While standing in line to check out with my husband and three daughters, my oldest, eight years old, said, Yuck! and brought my attention to a womans magazine sitting on a shelf.

The shelf was right at eye level for her, and within reach of my toddler, and was located between the registers. This magazine in particular displayed an indecently dressed woman on the cover in a provocative position, and contained several headlines of a sexual nature. I picked up the magazine to turn it around so we didnt have to look at it, and much to my dismay, the back cover was adorned with a woman in the same manner, this time advertising for a beer company! Frustrated with this, I grabbed another magazine to cover this one up and stated to the clerk that something should be done about that.

The woman in line in front of us said, Good for you, and that she had two girls of her own so she understood where I was coming from.

The clerk, however, had nothing to say. I took my girls and went to wait outside while my husband completed our purchase. Our family frequents this store and we would appreciate not having to worry about shielding our children from such material. The grocery stores where we do the majority of our shopping also have similar magazines right at the check stands. I dont imagine it would take anymore effort to place these magazines on higher shelves and out of sight of those of us who dont care to see them. Our children have every right to pick out new books for their enjoyment without magazines of this nature taking away from the safe family nature of our outing.

Below are the names of those in agreement with my beliefs. We plead with you to find a more appropriate place for such items. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

I have seen some retailers offer a "family friendly" checkout lane; this is THE LEAST you can do. I have 3 young children and would like to be able to educate them about sex in our home before they get an "education" from the world. Unfortunately, they ca

I have been in the same position and asked the manager of Safeway in Lodi to do the same. He said he understood my position and when he could he would change the magazines. At times the more provocative ones have been out of sight, but most of the time th
