On Your Mark, Get Set, Vote: The Campaign for Easy Votimg sign now

The State Board of Elections is directing local polling officials to keep closed one voting booth in each polling place, in order to save $40

On Election Day, Tuesday November 7th, the turnout is expected to be larger than usual, due to Question # 1 (the Narragansett Indian Casino) and close races for US Senator and Governor. The State Board of Electionsв decision means long lines, which could discourage people from waiting around to vote

The Automark Voter Assist Terminals, which are open to everyone and make voting accessible for many different groups of Rhode Islanders, must be ready to go at the beginning of the day to avoid equipment failures and unnecessary waiting times. The machines work by marking the ballot according to the voter's preferences; the voter then takes the completed ballot and casts it. Because the machines were not ready to go during the Primary Elections, people had to wait in long lines and some people were not able to vote independently. The ink cartridges that the machines use cost $40 each. Easy and independent voting for everyone is worth it for $40.

We demand that every booth in every polling place be open, tested, and ready for use when the polls open at the beginning of the day!

By not turning the voting machines on until the polls open, you have denied me the right to vote when I want like everyone else. When you deny a person their civil rights you are also denying them their human rights. MMD address 37 Tashmoo Way
