No to Stanley Fischer sign now

The news that Stanley Fischer, 67, has announced his run for managing directorship of the IMF is worrying for all developing countries. We, the undersigned, would like to ask you to take into strict consideration the IMFs bylaws restricting applicants to a maximum age of 65 for applicants for managing director.

Professor Fischer is a radical proponent of a specific set of economic dogmas. Empirical analysis has confirmed that implemented as policy their result has increased the gap between developed and developing countries, income concentration, unemployment, and deindustrialization. Of course, this excepts parts of East and South Asia which have rejected Dr. Fischers views. The application of his ideas has resulted in the IMF being considered an evil institution representing the interests of American corporations by many developing countries.

In the last years, the IMF has been adopting a more pragmatic approach, moving away from the ideological views of people like Professor Fischer. The Fund clearly has been learning from previous mistakes. To permit Stanley Fischer to be the IMFs managing director represents a step back to dogmatic economic paradigms which distance us global growth, macroeconomic stability, and poverty reduction.

We, the undersigned, urge you to not permit this step back. Please do not permit Stanley Fischer to run for managing director.
