NO HIGHLIGHTERS AT GGS

To Ms. Vella (and to Our Elected Representatives and to others that this may concern),

As residents of the exceptional education in GGS, we greatly appreciate the efforts you have made for being our IB biology teacher, baking us triple chocolate chip muffins, buying us sweet red strawberries from a total stranger and representing us well in the past 9 weeks.
However, as GGS residents, we oppose the outrageously use of blood-sucking highlighters at our school - especially in IB HL biology class. We raise the following issues for your consideration.

Negative Health Issues:

Our major concern is the high levels of variable radio frequency emissions discharged from the fluro-highlighters. Neighbors of Geelong Grammar school, i.e. the 'Shells' and employers at the 'Tip' who works 6-7 hours per day are in close proximity to the proposed site and currently the impact of this radiation is unknown. Those who live nearby and work at or attend the schools could experience amplified negative health affects such as Leukemia, cancer and polio (even though we have learnt all about the "Principles of Vaccinations"- which is not actually in the syllabus).

Damage to Property Values:

The presence of the fluro-highlighters in our neighborhood will lower our property values.

Lack of Disclosure:

There was virtually no notice of a public hearing. Most residents and parents of current and future students were not aware of the intensive proposal for the use of fluro-highlighters in every IB biology class. A project or actions with such a huge potential impact on a community should have community meetings to address the concerns of both residents, parents and nearby ecosystems (over-migration of Corian-seagulls and bottled-nose dolphins have been observed by the IB biology students who have been outrageously highlighting Biozone pages-especially Biozone no. 2)

Financial Impact:

We understand that the fluro-highlighters could generate extra revenue for highlighter companies, (e.g. Uni., Horse, Stabilo Boss, e.t.c). This 'minimal' financial gain would be lost when residents of GGS begin to file suit for damages resulting from health problems and property devaluation. Such lawsuits will reach class action status when hundreds of residents are affected by this overly use of highlighters. Concerned parents will pull their children from nearby schools and GGS, as some feel they have no choice but to move away from the intensely bright highlighted Biozone and Clegg pages which could disrupt their eye sight. The highlighters companies will lose more funding than the act of highlighting would bring them. It is clear that there is no financial justification for this overly used fluro-highlighters.

Finally,
due to the unreasonably short notice, we request a public hearing to be sponsored by the Central Bank of Australia, Uni., Horse, Stabilo Boss companies and the City of Corio to be held in the evening hours at the Geelong Grammar School Quadrangle. Our neighborhood and us- the IB Biology students is profoundly disappointed with this current action of intensive highlighting business. We have the right to have our voices heard.

We the undersigned residents of GGS, standing together and strongly united, oppose the BAN of fluro-highlighters in our IB biology class and prep sessions.

With sincere thanks for your consideration,

GGS Residents and IB Biology students,
