New York Rangers Goaltending Situation sign now

We, the fans, who have stuck with the team through seven dismal seasons, finally see a glimmer of hope in our beloved team. We see that the players on the team almost always put out their best effort and leave everything they have on the rink. This has led to our best record in years and our first realistic shot at making the playoffs in quite some time. Therefore, since we feel that the team should always give itself the best possible chance to win, we, the undersigned, support the promotion of Henrik Lunqvist to the spot of the number one goalie, with Kevin Weekes getting the occasional start in relief.

Mr. Lundqvist has played numberous seasons in both the Swedish Elite League and representing Sweden in international play, and has time after time proven that he is up to the challenge. Last year, during the lockout, he led Swedish Elite League goaltenders in just about every major category. For those who believe he is too young, lets not forget that a certain Martin Brodeur was fully two years younger in 1993-94 when he led the Devils to the second best record in the NHL and, more importantly, Game Seven of the Whales Conference Finals (which he thankfully lost). Brodeur was also younger when he led the Devils to the first of their three Stanley Cups.

There have always been young goaltenders who have shown that they are up to the challenge of starting in the NHL; Dryden, Roy, Brodeur, and now Lundqvist, who ranks in the top five in both goals against average and save percentage and has an amazing 17-5-5 record while playing steller hockey in just about every game he's played. Compare that to aging 31 year old goaltender Kevin Weekes, who clocks in with an 8-7-2 record and ranks 24th in goals against average and 34th in save percentage, and it is evident to us, the Ranger fans, the Garden faithful, and anyone with good hockey sense, that in order for us to make the best playoff run possible, Henrik Lundqvist must be acknowledged as the bona fide number one goaltender and given a larger share of the workload.
