Neighborhoods Matter
Working for A Better Baltimore

I support home ownership in Butchers Hill, and I feel that the stability of this historic neighborhood is threatened by the plans of the Housing Authority of Baltimore City (HABC) to renovate 20 vacant houses in Butchers Hill for its scattered site housing program, rather than selling them on the open market.

HABCs plan to relocate twenty new families to Butchers Hill is at odds with their own requirements that displaced tenants cannot be moved to neighborhoods that are more than 5\% assisted living and 10\% poverty. Additionally, HABCs failure to care for their current houses in Butchers Hill while devoting resources on new homes is an affront and disservice to their current tenants in Butchers Hill.

I strongly urge Mayor Martin OMalley and HABC Director Paul T. Graziano to sell the following properties to the Butchers Hill Community Development Corporation, thereby returning them to the productive tax rolls of Baltimore City, improving the stability of Butchers Hill by adding another twenty tax-paying homeowners to the neighborhood, providing HABC over half a million dollars in locally generated capital to devote to their existing tenants, and providing a huge economic benefit for Butchers Hill as well as the entire City of Baltimore:
