Multi-Partisan Call for GOP Action Regarding Bush's "Kerry's Coalition of the Wild-eyed" Video sign now

We, the undersigned, call on the GOP to take action in response to George W. Bushs use of Hitlers image in his new advertisement located on his website. The GOP took a very clear stance on this type of action in January and referred to this kind of behavior as a vile tactic. We now call upon the GOP to stand by its condemnation of such tactics as President Bush practices this same vile tactic.

On Thursday, June 24, 2004, the re-election campaign of George W. Bush released an advertisement on their official website that shows John Kerry, other Democrats, and liberals, exercising their first amendment rights to question President Bush. Their reward? They are shown alongside clips of Hitler, essentially comparing these Americans to a man responsible for the slaughter of millions.

The official news release from the Bush-Cheney website (Available here: http://www.georgewbush.com/News/Read.aspx?ID=2831) states that the video highlights the pessimism and rage of John Kerry and his fellow Democrats.

This statement is incorrect. The video may have been intended for such a purpose but, in actuality, highlights the hypocrisy of the GOP and the depths President Bush is willing to go in order to attempt to discredit John Kerry and alienate Democrats everywhere along with any American Citizens who dare question the leadership of the President.

The parts of the advertisement in question are those featuring pictures of Adolf Hitler that President Bush lifted from an entry to MoveOn.orgs Bush In 30 Seconds contest. The message conveyed by these clips is that these actions are representative of Kerry, Kerry supporters, Democrats, liberals, and other Americans who oppose George W. Bush in his re-election bid. However, it is a grievous offense to attempt to characterize John Kerry and his fellow Democrats with the views of an individual whose contest submission arose from a multi-partisan website for a contest that was in no way campaigning for John Kerry nor Democrats.

In response to this advertisement John Kerrys campaign spokesperson called on President Bush to apologize for the use of Hitlers image. However, we feel that this is not nearly enough and call instead on the GOP to represent its values and stand true to the stance they took on this type of campaigning in January of 2004.

When the Bush in 30 Seconds contest was underway, the GOP issued two statements aimed at MoveOns acceptance of contest submissions that compared President Bush to Hitler and calling for an apology from the website for posting such submissions. The GOP statements can be found in their entirety at the links below:

"MoveOn should apologize for ads comparing Bush to Hitler"
http://www.gop.com/news/read.aspx?ID=3263

"Third Hitler ad emerges"
http://www.gop.com/news/read.aspx?ID=3075

In the first of these news releases the GOP asserts, through RNC chairman Ed Gillespie, that the comparison of George W. Bush to Hitler and the use of Hitlers images alongside Bush represented a despicable tactic and that Such ads are anything but appropriate. Gillespie then calls on Democrats to support his call for MoveOn to issue an apology.

In the second of these releases chairman Gillespie again makes clear the GOP stance by referring to the videos as reprehensible and stating that
MoveOn.org should make clear that they want no affiliation with anyone who would engage in these types of vile tactics.
It is for these reasons that we call on the GOP to take action in this matter as it has clearly stated that this type of vile tactic is unacceptable.

We, the undersigned, call upon the GOP to:

1. Issue a statement reaffirming the GOPs stance on such a vile tactic so that Bush supporters and Republicans are not seen as condoning the use of these dirty politics.

2. Denounce George W. Bushs use of the very same despicable tactic and reprehensible video that you denounced MoveOn and its entrant for.

3. Urge George W. Bush to apologize publicly to the American people for the use of such a video and individually in writing to John Kerry, the DNC, and Michael Moore for running the images of Hitler alongside their and other prominent Americans images.

4. Issue a statement that if President Bush fails to remove the video in question immediately the GOP will consider seeking another Nominee to represent the Republican Party in the upcoming Presidential election. This action supports the January 2004 GOP request that MoveOn.org should make clear that they want no affiliation with anyone who would engage in these types of vile tactics and shows the GOP shares the desire to not associate with anyone who might use these tactics.

We, the undersigned, agree wholeheartedly with the GOPs stance in regards to this issue and denounce such tactics by ANY candidate regardless of their party affiliation.

We therefore call on the GOP to TAKE ACTION and immediately address this issue by way of the four calls to action stated above.

We believe that, despite our political affiliations, as Americans we are all brothers and sisters in this country. Many of our loved ones fought and died in the struggle to rid the world of Adolf Hitler. To resort to such tactics not only is a disservice to all Americans, it DISHONORS the memory of those who fought and died against Hitler to preserve our way of life and our political system.

We trust that the GOP will stand by their statements in regards to this issue and act accordingly.

Thank you.
