Maori Television Dismissal of Julian Wilcox Unjust sign now

Minister of Maori Affairs Parekura Horomia
Chairman Maori Television Board, Wayne Walden
MTS Board Members
MTS Stakeholders
MTS Kaumatua Council

E hika e,

We are extremely disturbed by the dismissal of Mr Julian Wilcox from
Maori Television.

We believe Mr Wilcoxs sacking to be a severe reaction by MTS management, made without proper consideration to kaupapa Maori processes, tikanga.

We assert MTS management has been shown to act in breach of tikanga in the past and present [reference N Daniels V MTS; J Te Rito v MTS] and must stop immediately.

We declare:

1) Full support to Julian Wilcox as a loyal advocate for the excellence of te reo Maori
2) Full support to Julian Wilcox as an outstanding and committed media broadcaster

3) Full support to Maori Television staff for their efforts in maintaining the service

We call for:

1) An urgent review of MTS management decisions and processes by a kaumatua council, for breaches of tikanga

2) The immediate reinstatement of Julian Wilcox to MTS

3) A full public apology to Mr Wilcox and his whanau for this mistreatment

Te ao Maori have longed for the dawning of Maori Television for many generations. It pains us now to see that dream subjected to continuous harm by poor mismanagement.

E Tama, ahakoa iti, nei te kupu tautoko a ngai tatou.

Iwi Ngati Awa raua Ko Ngati Porou It is a waste to see a talented presenter like him go to waste. Even though I can't speak the Reo he makes me ethusiastic about learning it and also it is easy to understand some of the things he is talking about.

Iwi Tainui and Ngati Porou Aue! Absolutely stunned by MTS's actions barely 3 months after mistreating Ngarimu. Whoever is managing staff needs some basic training in kaupapa based employment relations. MTS needs to get its act together. Too many people
