Make Shark Week a National Holiday sign now

For many years, we the people of the United States have looked forward to one special time of the year when our families gather together to celebrate the joy of learning. This special time, twenty years going, has become a tradition celebrated by many Americans. We speak of Shark Week. This time, when we unite as one with all those who've both survived and lost their lives to large carnivorous fish. As a nation we already observe this yearly occasion informally, but today we petition congress to make our beloved Shark Week a time of solemn reflection. A time for all Americans to be at home with those they care about and to learn how to avoid a deadly encounter with the sea's top predators. We can feel free and proud to examine myth versus reality. We can stand eye to eye with our national community and say, "Yes! The great white is large, but is is truly more of a killer than the maco?"

Congress, we ask you to grant national holiday status to this special time of year which is so significant to us as a people. We politely suggest the last week of July hereafter be known throughout the land as "Shark Week".
