LYS SOS sign now

Sir David Henshaw,

We are sending you this petition strongly protesting about the proposed restructuring of the Liverpool Youth Service.

The restructure will mean youth workers on JNC terms and conditions losing their conditions and having them replaced with terms and conditions that have no relevancy to any youth worker within this service. Also, those youth workers who have been employed under NJC terms and conditions are now also losing their present grading and opportunities to progress within the service.

This restructure is a backward step for this City Council and ultimately a downgrading of a service for the young people who deserve to be valued by the Liverpool City Council.

Young people in Liverpool should be invested in for the future - Capital of Culture - Investment in people - a Service of value giving value for young people.

Taking away JNC means a deprofessionalisation of this service and a downgrading of youth workers and a devaluing of the work we do with young people.

We the undersigned agree that all youth workers employed in Liverpool should be on JNC terms and conditions and on a pay scale that reflects their skills and experience.

At a time when the Youth service is needed most LCC decides the time is right to deprofessionalise the youth service and deny youth workers the pay and conditiond they deserve. This proverb will come true ' you reap what you sew'

Would you take teachers holidays off them? No but you expect the youth workers to work holiday times and for less pay!!! JNC is the only RIGHT pay and conditions for professional youth workers!

JNC is not just about pay and holidays, it sets the standards that we need to hold to so that we can deliver the best services to young people in all our communities. Removing professionally recognised terms and conditions will have an adverse effect on y

I fully support the petition. JNC are the correct and only appropriate terms and conditions for professional workers offering the best possible Youth Service to young people and the dedicated youth workers in Liverpool should not be treated in this shoddy
