Liquor Licensing for Food Products Containing Alcohol sign now

We the undersigned respectfully request an update in liquor licensing to allow for todays changing attitudes towards alcohol and food consumption. Currently Ohio Revised Code Section 4301.58 prohibits any person from selling intoxicating liquor without a valid permit but there is no current permit category established to cover the sale of food products containing intoxicating liquor. Though this topic may seem insignificant to legislators, this is of rising importance among consumers as products of this type are gaining popularity.

Liquors have been used as significant ingredients for many years in Italian cooking such as rum balls or tiramisu, where the alcohol content was thought to cook off and yet were you to give a slice to your 12 year old niece she would stumble away tipsy. Modern times have taken our palettes a step further though and have made the legality complicated. Now we have wine and lager being used as a fondue base in popular restaurants and even alcoholic ice cream being scooped up in local creameries. Alas, the item bringing up the question in the first place is known as a cake shot. These, similar to jello shots, are bite sized cured cupcakes with a high alcohol content that are extremely popular. This authors goal is to be able to sell these confections to area bars and cater them to private parties but at this time there is no legal premise for this situation. Ive created this petition in an effort to help convince those of you reading it of its importance and I hope you agree.
