Libraries Matter, No More Cuts sign now

Since 2009, our libraries have been cut by more than 30 percent, from $40 million to $25 million annually. Now the County Executive's budget would cut them again.

We must fight back to protect our libraries. We can reverse these cuts at the County Council if we make our voices heard.

Libraries matter- they provide the resources, tools, and materials that keep our citizens safe, healthy, and educated. Libraries are a cornerstone of our community, providing over 2/3 of Montgomery County residents and visitors with reading materials, programs, literacy advancement and vital job assistance.

No More Cuts- Let's all STAND UP FOR our communities' EDUCATION and SAVE OUR LIBRARIES.

Here's what you can do.

1. Sign our petition letting our Representatives know that libraries matter to you.

2. Join us as the Health and Human Services Committee reviews the libraries budget this Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 2:00pm in the Council Office Building: 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, MD 20850, 3rd floor conference room. Wear Orange to show that you stand with our libraries.

3. Contact your local Montgomery County Council members directly. For ideas and templates, visit

4. Tell others to raise their voices!

The cuts are shocking. $6.76 million to purchase vehicles for MC execs but cuts to a service that provides thousands daily research, help, connection, and more. Absolutely insane. Zip Code 20853

I use the library every week and have done for years. It's an incredibly important institution - a center for learning and curiosity for readers young and old. It's also an important vestige of civilization quickly being crowded out by junk technology. Pl
