Letter to Stephen Harper in support of Iranian people sign now

To The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
Prime Minister of Canada

Dear Prime Minister:

We hereby write this letter to express our deepest concerns about the recent troubling events in Iran. As you are aware, people in Iran took part in the recent presidential election with great hope to take little but important steps towards a democracy based on the voices of Iranians and what they believe in. Unfortunately, they found themselves in a very complicated situation as their votes were robbed and their dreams shattered. Since then, reformist leaders and their supporters are being suppressed, arrested, beaten and even killed by uninformed militias. The brutal actions of police and militia against Iranian people, as captured by the disturbing images and videos that have emerged, has turned the election race into a human rights crisis. The depth of these brutalities against our brothers and sisters in Iran is enough to trouble any free-minded responsible human being.

Iranian-Canadians have proudly contributed to Canadas progress and democracy and its diverse community. As proud members of this community, we would like to ask the government of Canada and the House of Commons to take the necessary actions to stop human rights violations in Iran. We would like to ask you as our Prime Minister:

-Not to recognize neither the election process as legitimate nor the self-claimed winner of the election as a duly elected president under any circumstances.
-To condemn the brutal violence conducted by the government, army, and paramilitary forces against innocent Iranian civilians.
-To summon the representation of the Iranian government in Canada demanding immediate action to stop violence and to disarm the militia.
-To lead the world community in order to stop brutality and human rights violations in Iran through unified actions such as resolutions in the UN Security Council and the UN Human Rights Council.

We believe any delay in taking action may exacerbate the current human rights disaster. We are also worried about the possibility of any conflict and brutal confrontation occurring on July 9thh 2009, as July 9th is the Anniversary of the Iranian Student Movement that occurred in 1999.

Your kind attention and consideration into this very important matter is very much appreciated.

Sincerely Yours,

Iranian-Canadians and Iranians in Canada
