Let us march to the defence of Togo sign now

On 8 January 2010 Togo drove into a 20-minute hail of bullets, fired by FLEC (Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda ) terrorists in the Cabinda enclave of Angola.

On January 30 Togo drove into a wall of insensitivity, crass arrogance and unbelievable buffoonery. This time the attackers were none other CAF the Confederation of African Football.

Rather than tend to Togo's wounds CAF seem to have chosen to vivisect them alive. Rather than help the Togolese up when they are down, CAF seems to have chosen to stomp their head into the mud.

On January 8 FLEC did not score any victory. On January 30 FLEC were finally handed a huge victory. On that day CAF shot themselves in the foot.

When the rebels of FLEC fired their bullets they did not aim at Togo. They aimed at everyone who loves African football. Yes it was Togo on the bus, but it could have been anyone.

A small change in the schedule, and it could have been Nigerians on that bus. Egyptians, Algerians, Malawians, Zambians, Cameroonians, Ivorians, Gabonese, Malians, Ghanaians, Burkinabe, Beninese, Mozambicans, Angolans, Tunisians ... it could have been any one of the 16 brother teams on that bus. A small change in the qualifying results and it could have been any one of the 53 brother nations on that bus.

The attack was not an attack on Togo, but an attack on African football. Why are CAF taking the side of the terrorists by skinning the victims alive.

Let us help the Togolese starve off the cannonball that CAF is now firing at Togo.

I therefore to call upon everyone who loves African football; everyone who hates to hand terrorists needless victories; everyone who feels the pain that Togo must have felt when bullets were flying all around them. Brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, children of Africa people of The World I call upon you to help open the eyes of CAF.

I call upon you to bring your won little razor to help cut the superglue that is covering CAF's eyes. Bring your buckets and shovels so that we can carry away the sand that is burying CAF's head.

Brothers, sisters, oh wise elders let us stand together in defence of Togo. CAF may have some supposed elders in it, but surely can't you that see wisdom has abandoned their heads like the seeds being taken out of a calabash to make it empty.

Mr Issa Hayatou, President of CAF, can you not see that the circus that CAF is now embarking on, is not entertaining at all.

Yes things may have been said that should not have been said. Yes things may have been done that should not have been done. But it was in the heat of the moment. There was confusion. There was gnashing of the teeth. There was banging of heads.

What would you expect after people have been shot and some are dead? Isn't it normal to expect confused and rash reactions.

CAF made a mistake on day one of the crisis. The mistake was that they started ordering Togo about. They should simply have said, whatever decision Togo takes, we will support them. That way they would have avoided painting themselves or anyone else into a corner. Now it is the last day of the tournament and CAF are making another mistake. Why ban Togo?

Amelete Abalo is dead. Stan Ocloo is dead. If you ban Togo today, who are you making happy, the families of the dead or the FLEC terrorists? If you ban Togo today, who gets bragging rights, the families of Abalo and Ocloo, or the FLEC terrorists. As we sit here today Togo is not rejoicing, African football is not rejoicing, but the FLEC terrorists will certainly be raising glasses in toast.

Kodjovi Obilale is lying in hospital, a bullet in his back. Please don't stick a knife in that same back.

Please Mr Hayatou, stop the mad men and bring out the wise men.
