Legislation for Lorena's Law sign now

Background:

Looking to protect children from predatory internet practices, I regularly check online for inappropriate references to friends and family members. It is a tactic recommended by my local law enforcement agency. What came up on one such check was more than alarming!

A family member shares the name of a prolific adult entertainer. More than an unfortunate coincidence, the images and information this name brought home to my desktop, raised a larger issue. Multiple sites of very graphic adult content popped-up in an instant, simply a few keystrokes away.

Petition:

This petition to initiate legislation to create Lorena's Law, seeks to prohibit adult content from making its way onto the computer screens of children. Pornography exists and is protected by our First Amendment right to freedom of speech and expression. Therefore, rather than challenge the constitution, the goal the requested legislation is to make it more difficult for the general public, especially youths, to access pornography and other adult content on the internet by formalizing the following.

1.) Require websites with adult content to have mandatory firewalls that:
a.) Warn audiences of the nature of content prior to viewing;
b.) Require age verification; and
c.) Password-protect audiences against exposure to inappropriate content.

2.) Punish non-compliant site publishers with fines.

The objective of this petition is simple. It seeks to create the same safeguards against exposure to inappropriate content that currently exist in other forms of print, broadcast and television media.

By supporting this initiative, I share in taking the first step to fortify our communities, and our children, against unwanted exposure to pornography and other inappropriate, adult content on the internet.
