Legalization & Regulation of AirSoft in Canada sign now

Various AirSoft communities both in Canada and worldwide have faced immense pressure from law enforcement agencies, customs offices and politicians.

Most recently in Canada, there have been various retailers who have had their merchandise seized and locations shut down.

It is unfortunate for the AirSoft communities within Canadas multiple provinces to have watched their sport be turned into a political and media game over an agenda which needs to be discussed in an open and secure forum.

The worldwide AirSoft community holds their sport with high regard abiding by a strict no-tolerance policy for both purchases of products and the use of them on playing fields which are usually used for paintball. Unlike the paintball game participants, AirSoft has been wrongly deemed unsafe and at times dangerous by various media outlets this is not so.

It is understood that there have been isolated incidents across Canada of young people (mostly high school students) who have brought similar looking pieces to their school grounds with the intention of harming fellow peers. What the media, law enforcement, customs office and even politicians do not understand is that these chosen weapons can be purchased at most major retailers and are known as SoftAir not AirSoft the sport as we know it.

Furthermore, AirSoft participants strongly agree that it is time a change be made in the eyes of not only authority figures, but also the public who are uneducated with the strict practices and policies that each organization mandates both on a provincial and federal level.

Below is a list of strict policies in which we plan to address to those in governmental power justifying our sport and safe practice of this long-lived military simulation game.

------------------

1) A person must be 18 years of age and provide valid government identification to the registered retailer (business) prior to any purchase.

2) A record and copy of the buyers valid government identification will be kept with the registered retailer (business) on file.

3) All AirSoft participants must take a mandatory (no-fee) training course on how to handle and operate AirSoft products including the understanding and compliance of AirSoft Players Code of Ethics (which will be written in legal format at a later date after debate) while on or off the field.

4) If any player is found guilty or none compliant in any of the above circumstances, he/she will be reported to the community and be on a black list that is kept, recorded and shared with all provincial gaming teams, leagues, associations.

5) If a retailer is found guilty or none compliant in any of the above circumstances, he/she will be reported to the community and be on a black list that is kept, recorded and shared with all provincial gaming teams, leagues, associations. Furthermore, a direct contact will be made to the specific corresponding law enforcement agency contact informing him/her of the retailers negligent actions.

6) If a player or retailer would like to petition their name from the black list an open forum will be allowed at a selected date with previously selected provincial representatives (one from each province whereby AirSoft is played) whereby the individual may plea his/her case. If a decision is overturned, it will be noted. Otherwise, no further action will occur as verdict stands.

-------------------

The above is a brief sample of the AirSoft communitys strict policies and guidelines in order to keep this sport alive. These items will be addressed to the appropriate authority figures as will a documented understand and signature be required by a representative from each facet law enforcement, customs agency, provincial political office and federal political office.

If the above stated is not seen as sufficient by the law-makers and enforcers of Canada, an open forum shall be held on a selected date to discuss alternatives. Possible alternatives that have been mentioned in provincial and federal levels are as follows:

- Requirement for > Possessions and Acquisition License (PAL)

- AirSoft Categorization in the > Firearms Act and Regulations

- Membership and Creation of a > Canadian National AirSoft Association (CNAA)

Furthermore, it is essential that at this time personal biases and comments are kept private until this matter is resolved in a timely and legal matter. No one wants our sport to be abolished or prohibited by law, so until such time continue playing and supporting these strict codes and policies as we have in the past years only difference now is that it will be legally written, documented and hopefully have the support of our government.

In truth, I am uncertain what will become of this petition. All I hope is that enough people from not only Canada, but hopefully United States and worldwide will sign their name with pride to assist us with this on-going issue.

I personally thank every one of you who took time to come here regardless of your positions. For those that signed, thank you even more and hopefully one day all AirSoft communities will unite.
