Keep Chucky's Number On The Field! sign now

We, the undersigned, as alumni, fans and friends of The University of Mississippi wish to express our views on the matter of retiring Chucky Mullins' #38 football jersey at Ole Miss. It has recently been published in several online sports and news columns that the Athletic Director's office is considering the retirement of #38 from football play at Ole Miss. We are very strongly opposed to the idea of retiring Chucky's number. We feel that the best way to keep Chucky's memory alive and to honor him as a person and as a player is to keep his number on the field of play. We wish to emphasize that the current tradition of awarding the privilege and honor of wearing #38 to the winner of the Chucky Mullins Courage Award is the way that we wish to see Chucky's memory honored at Ole Miss.

I'm a State fan and I'm signing this. Retiring his number won't do much now, the best way to honor him is to keep his number on the field.

For the players that say they have formed a bond with a certain number and don't want to wear #38......the number doesn't help you play better, it's what's inside. Chucky had what it takes inside to be a great player.

The winner of the Chucky Mullins Award should know the meaning and the responsibility of wearing the #38 jersey. Were I a football player chosen as the award recipient, it would be a great honor to wear the jersey. If I had some attachment to my own jerse
