Keep Bute Park Open Later sign now

We the undersigned ask that Cardiff Council's executive note the inconvenience caused to walkers and cyclists by the early closure of Bute Park in the winter months.

We request that lighting be installed along the route between the Sophia Gardens footbridge and North Road so that it can remain open until the early evening. This would enable many more people to walk or cycle to work without a lengthy detour and thus help reduce the significant traffic congestion and pollution in Cardiff.

What is the purpose of having a park when it is unusable for most people in the winter months. I often feel that Cardiff Parks exist to keep Park Rangers employed, not as a resource for Cardiff residents.

The alternative route across the city, along Castle Street, is dangerous to cycle as the cycle paths are not clear nor consistent. This is the case even for very experienced, confident cyclists with full lighting and reflective clothing. The park represen
