Integrate foreign medical doctors into the Canadian Healthcare System sign now

Currently there are thousands of International Medical Doctors in Canada who are not being given authority to practice in Canada because their foreign degrees have not been proved equivalent to the Canadian degrees, DESPITE years of practice abroad as physicians and specialists.
These foreign doctors are now working in occupations unrelated to the medical field, hoping to make enough money while preparing to face the daunting standards put in place by the Medical Council of Canada. Sometimes it takes them years to achieve this licensure, and occasionally, some lose hope and give up their profession altogether.

Currently there are thousands of Canadians who are in dire need of medical attention, some of them emergency cases, whose needs are not being met because of a shortage of doctors in the system.
These Canadians are unhappy, frustrated and full of complaints about the incredibly long wait they have to face to merely see a doctor. In an emergency case, a 3-5 week wait before you see a physician is just not justified. In an emergency room, a 4-6 hour wait before you get to see a nurse can prove to be fatal. And it has.

In light of the shortage of medical practitioners in the country, the unbelievable amount of Canadians who need medical attention and the thousands of foreign doctors who are not being allowed to make themselves useful by practising their own profession, and being put through ludicrous licensure procedures, the scenario we have in this country is now a poor one.

I urge the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) to abandon the incredible amount of red tape, and to give more thought into this. Many foreign doctors have multiple specialization degrees, and years of experience. Their talent is not being put to use, in a place that severely needs it. Over 15 years of practicing as a Physician cannot be wrong, no matter what country. Foreign education or not, the human anatomy does not change from one continent to another, though the ethics and laws might.
I also urge the MCC to look at each foreign doctor applying for licensure as an individual case, or atleast have a few categories with varying degrees of required procedures, instead of strictly making every foreign doctor go through the same rigorous procedures.

I suggest some changes such as:
I. Considering that a foreign doctor with more experience and more qualifications could require less examinations and residency than a newly qualified one.
II. Establish a medical ethics exam or medical law exam in place of the MCCQE parts 1 and 2.

Everyone who signs this petition agrees with the statements above and would like to ask the Medical Council of Canada to take it into consideration.
