Insurance Coverage for Laser Hair Removal for PCOS sign now

A letter for consideration to the Medical Coverage of Laser Hair Removal Options;


This petition is on behalf of all the women who suffer from a condition called PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS. Some of the symptoms associated with this condition are;

h Fewer than eight menstrual cycles in a year, more than 35 days between cycles, or no menstrual cycle. Failure to ovulate each month occurs in almost 50\% of women with PCOS.

h Abnormal vaginal bleeding. This symptom occurs in about 30\% of women with PCOS.

h Skin problems, such as acne, oily skin, dandruff, dark skin patches (acanthosis nigricans) on the neck, groin, underarms, or in skin folds, or skin tags (acrochordons) in the armpits or neck area.

h Depression or mood swings. Many women have emotional problems related to the many physical symptoms of PCOS, such as excess hair, obesity, or infertility.

h Excess hair growth (hirsutism) on the face, chest, back, and stomach, thumbs, or toes. More than 70\% of women with PCOS complain of excess hair growth.

The symptom, which I am focusing my attention on, is the Hirutism. This excessive hair growth in a male pattern is not only unflattering, but psychological crippling to the diagnosed. The insurance company will not pay for this procedure because they consider it to be cosmetic. This is absurd. The hair growth can be so extreme and noticeable that it makes the patient want to go into hiding. Our other options are both painful and do not last. We did not ask for this condition nor the symptoms brought on by this disease but we are asking for the insurance companies to change their views on laser hair removal when a condition such as PCOS triggers such mentally damaging conditions.
