Initiative to Dissolve the SGA sign now

We, the undersigned, demand that the attached amendment to the Constitution of the Student Government Association of the University of South Alabama disbanding the Student Government Association and establishing Jaguar Productions and the Board of Student Communications as independent entities, in accordance with the Initiative Clause of Article XI Section 1. Text of amendment attached.

We, the undersigned, furthermore demand that the Administration immediately repeal the portion of student fees devoted to funding the Student Government Association.

The Amendment

1. Articles I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, and XIII of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution are hereby repealed in their entirety.
2. Article XIV Section 4.1 of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution shall hereby read: The membership of the Board of Student Communications will consist of the following with no one person filling two positions: The Dean of Students or his or her designee, The Director of the Office of Public Relations or his or her designee, Faculty member in the field of Print Journalism, The department chair of the English department or his or her designee, A professor of Journalism, A faculty member from the Mitchell College of Business with interest in the business management of the student publications, Faculty member in the field of broadcasting, Editor(s) of the student publication(s) and General Manager of Student Radio Station, A Student Representative from the student operated television station, The President of the Student Programming Board or his or her designee.
3. Article XIV of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution is hereby reinstated as Article I of the 2008-2009 Board of Student Communications Constitution.
4. Article XV Section 4.1 of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution shall hereby read: The membership of the Student Programming Board will consist of the following: The chairs of the ten standing committees, Three students-at-large, The President of the Student Programming Board, The Vice President of the Student Programming Board, The Administrator of Community Participation of the Student Programming Board, The Financial Director of the Student Programming Board. The Student Programming Board Advisor and his or her Graduate Assistant shall serve as ex-officio members of the Board, advising on matters of University policy and finances.
5. Article XV Section 8 of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution shall hereby read: The funding for the Student Programming Board shall be from the Programs/Special Events Office's budget, sponsors, fundraising, and event charges.
6. Article XV Section 9.4 of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution shall hereby read: All qualified applicants will be interviewed by a nominating committee consisting of the outgoing President of the SPB, one student-at-large, the outgoing Financial Director of the SPB and the SPB Advisor. The SPB will decide who the student-at-large will be. If anyone from the nominating committee is applying for any one of these executive offices, that person will be replaced by another student-at-large. A majority vote of the nominating committee is necessary for official nomination.
7. Article XV Section 9.6 of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution is hereby repealed.
8. Article XV Section 9.7 of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution shall hereby read: The term of office of the President, Vice President, and Financial Director of the Student Programming Board shall be one year, starting and ending the first week of April.
9. Article XV Section 14.3 of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution shall hereby read: The application, selection and term of office of the committee chairs shall be the same as in Section 12.3.
10. Article XV Section 17.1 of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution is hereby repealed.
11. Article XV of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution is hereby reinstated as Article I of the 2008-2009 Student Programming Board Constitution.
12. Article XI Section 1 of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution is hereby reinstated as Article II Section 1 of both the 2008-2009 Board of Student Communications Constitution and the 2008-2009 Student Programming Board Constitution.
13. Article II Section 2 of both the 2008-2009 Board of Student Communications Constitution and the 2008-2009 Student Programming Board Constitution shall read: Unless otherwise stipulated in the amendment, all amendments will go into effect immediately upon passage.
14. The Code-of-Laws of the Student Government Association of the University of South Alabama is hereby repealed in its entirety.
15. In accordance with Article XIII Section 2 of the 2007-2008 SGA Constitution, this Amendment goes into effect immediately upon passage.
