I want Mississauga City Hall to fly the Rainbow Pride Flag sign now

On July 19, 2008, Mississauga made history by hosting the premiere Pride March for the Region of Peel. Organized by QXposure, a partnership of human service agencies (Peel HIV/AIDS Network, East Mississauga CHC, and Associated Youth Services of Peel), sexually diverse residents of Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon marched west on Dundas Street in Mississauga. The march is a celebration of sexual diversity and community safety for Lesbian, Gays, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) people. Over 100 adults, youth and children attended to promote Pride, health, and safety for Peels diverse LGBT community.

Residents and community agencies will make history again with a second QX Pride March and celebration on Saturday July 18, 2009. We as residents and supporters of Mississauga will be proclaiming July 18th a day of Pride. We ask that the City of Mississauga join us in proclaiming Pride Week in our city and raising the Rainbow Flag at Mississauga City Hall on Monday July 13, 2009.

The Rainbow Flag is a symbol of Gay Pride internationally. It was first used as a symbol of gay pride in 1978. Flying the flag is an action of visibility, to acknowledge the many contributions of our LGBT communities in Peel, and to declare our intolerance for any and all forms of discrimination in our City.

In solidarity, we challenge Mississauga to embrace its sexually diverse residents, as Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell has done by proclaiming Gay Pride Day in 2004 and 2005, and a Gay Pride Week in 2006, 2007, and 2008. We call upon the City of Mississauga to demonstrate a commitment to building an inclusive society in our City.

We, the people of Mississauga, commit to work together to ensure equal rights for all, eliminate homophobia, transphobia, sexism, racism, and other forms of discrimination and celebrate the cultural, social and economic successes of our diverse region.

We wish to see Mississauga City Hall flying the Pride flag as a symbol of hope, unity, and diversity.
