I say NO TO CCTV on Buses sign now

Recently, The Land Transport Authority(LTA) of Singapore proposed to install CCTV cameras on all buses in Singapore. Since December 2005, the LTA have started CCTV trials on stationary buses and a feasibilibity study is in progress and that a decision on the installation of the cameras will only be made after the completion of the study, and only if the study is positive or successful.

This move is made in response to the London bombings in 2005 to combat against terrorists from striking on our buses. If this proposal becomes successful, it will only be a matter of time before this proposal is implemented on all public transport.

I strongly object to this proposal as a way of ensuring security on our buses. This very initiative infringes on our privacy and our personal freedom. This is as good as telling all Singaporeans that the moment you stepped out of your house, the government is watching you and knows what you are doing and how you are behaving. I do not want the intrusion of the government into every aspect of our lives. NO CCTV ON BUSES!!

For anyone who shares this very viewpoint of mine, do engaged yourself in this petition to alert the authorities of what the masses in Singapore feel. We, Singaporeans have the right to voice out our displeasure on any policies, and the relevant authorities should not disregard our opinions. I do not want the casino issue to repeat itself, where the general feeling is that the authorities had already made up their mind even before consulting the populace.
