"Groh Must Go" sign now

After watching the worst debacle that I have ever witnessed while wearing my beloved orange and blue, I have decided that I must do my small part to make the masses heard. Each year millions of dollars are poured into UVA via donations, ticket sales, Cavalier attire, and more. In return for giving the university my hard-earned money each year, I expect to make the 3 hour trip to Charlottesville and watch competitive football. I have suffered through countless losses to our in-state rival, blowout losses to top 25 teams, lackluster and un-inspired performances in meaningful ACC games, and being embarrassed by Duke. None of these things hurt me to the core as much as the latest in a long list of humiliating losses... being absolutely outplayed and outcoached by 1-AA "powerhouse" William & Mary. By game's end, even those in the stands who were re-butting the "Groh must go" chants during the game could only hang their head in realization that our $2 million a year coach had just masterminded one of the worst games in UVA football history. Groh created quite a buzz during the off-season by anointing Vic Hall to lead us back to respectability as the QB that he never got a chance to be. Hall took the reigns and immediately scampered for a 34 yard TD run that gave the crowd hope for 2009. It was short-lived, however, when Groh decided that Jameel Sewell should be welcomed back under center with open arms. Sewell quickly made Groh look like the genius that he is by throwing 3 INTs. Of course, Groh realized how badly Sewell was performing and put Hall back in, right? Negative. He figured that 3rd string QB Verica was the more logical choice, even though he had already proved to all of us last year that he should be nothing more than a holder for extra points. Of course, Verica fumbled the ball away and Groh decided in his infinite wisdom to put Sewell back in to throw the last of his picks at a time when UVA could have still salvaged a win with just one solid drive. Besides the substitution blunders, there were numerous other instances that reflect nothing more than bad coaching. Hall tried to field a punt inside the 10 and fumbled it away. Sewell took a sack by running out of bounds instead of throwing it away. UVA blew a defensive stop by running into the punter. After getting great field position, Groh called a QB sneak from the shotgun formation on 3rd and 1 with the slowest QB, Verica, on the field. I sincerely hoped that Mike Groh was the problem all of this time, but I think excuses can no longer be made. Don't be fooled by the 4 receiver sets. This playbook is the same one that we have cried over for the near-decade of Groh's existence. Different formations, same plays. Run left. Run right. Run up the middle. 3rd and 7? How about a draw play. 3rd and 1? Send the slow QB around end. This man is making more money than the average American dreams about, and is one of the worst coaches that I have had the displeasure of watching. UVA has become the laughingstock of the ACC and is the new guaranteed "W" for their opposition. The Hoos don't have an easy road this year, playing 4 pre-season top 25 teams, plus Boston College at home and Maryland, Miami, and Clemson on their home fields. I hate to admit it, but there is a very real possibility that the Cavs could win no more than 2-3 games in 2009. This is what 9 years of recruiting and coaching gets you at a major ACC university? What a joke! I am not a crusader, and I don't generally target anyone's job. However, there is no excuse for the sham that is UVA football now, and there is only one man that can be held responsible at this point. I am only one of thousands, but it is time that our voice is heard. Craig Littlepage, you must listen to the faithful fans that want so badly to see our team succeed. There is a reason that your season ticket sales were down 9,000 this year. I can only promise that I, myself, will watch each and every loss from home in 2010 if Groh is not gone. Furthermore, TCU may very well be the last game that I attend THIS year if that performance is as pitiful as week 1. That is why I am asking each and every UVA fan who is sick and tired of riding this roller coaster to join me in this petition. Al's 9 lives have long ago expired and the powers that be must know how dire this situation has become. I ask you to please sign this petition and join me in the ever-growing chant..."Groh must go"!
