Greening the Pontio Arts Centre sign now

We call on those responsible for the Pontio Project (a) to ensure that the number of trees cut down owing to the Pontio Project is minimised, and that a similar or higher number of comparable native trees are planted and protected in order to replace those that are removed; (b) to preserve College Park as a place of tranquility and mature woodland, and to develop the latter as an arboretum; (c) to explore further the potential for incorporating more renewable energy sources into the project, including photovoltaics; (d) to incorporate other environmentally and aesthetically beneficial measures into the project, including in particular living green walls.

It is WAG policy that new buildings be carbon neutral from 2011, consequently Bangor University has the opportunity to lead the way with Pontio. The woodland in College Park is a very important green breathing-space for the city, much loved and appreciate
