Green Lantern Corps - Women In Refrigerators sign now

Dear DC Comics Editorial Staff,

Recently, Green Lantern Corps #36 featured a tie-in to the Blackest Night event. During this issue, Kyle Rayner was confronted by his deceased ex-girlfriend, Alexandra DeWitt.

Alexandra was the source of much controversy in the comic book world when she was murdered by Major Force and stuffed into a refrigerator. A movement began in the comic industry, led by writer Gail Simone, over the women in refrigerators mentality in the medium. Simone has well-documented the staggering number of murders, rapes, and assaults needlessly committed against women over the years.

In Green Lantern Corps #36, a refrigerator decorated with a Black Lantern logo appeared to Kyle and the mangled body of Alexandra pulled him in. Peter Tomasi and Geoff Johns have carelessly dredged up one of the darkest and most insulting plot devices in the history of comics and presented it in an almost comedic way. As well respected writers on the DC Comics staff, we expected much more from them and are disgusted by this blatant perpetuation of violence against women. As comic fans, we all expect more, and demand more.

We hope that our pleas for a resolution on this matter does not get quietly disregarded and swept under the rug. This chauvinistic boys club in the comic book industry needs to cease so that we are not teaching a new generation that any sort of violence towards women in necessary or okay.
