Graduate Entry Medicine Students for Change in Student Grant Scheme sign now

We, the undersigned, wish to see a review of the Student Grant Scheme to take into consideration the additional entry requirements and curriculum which differentiates such courses from their undergraduate entry counterparts.

This should be reflected in a reversal of the exclusion of students from the grant scheme or by making the Back to Education allowance available for such students, in line with the current scheme for students re-training as teachers [also Level 8].

The government should acknowledge the undertaking of the students in re-entering education at a later stage and their future contribution to Irish healthcare. Additionally, in line with The Fottrell Report (2006) which formed the basis for the creation of such courses, the government has a duty to ensure that socio-economic factors are not the main cause of preventing students from pursuing a degree in Medicine.
