Sylvester Stallone the world famous Hollywood actor recently announced his intention to shoot and produce a film based on the novel The Forty Days of Musa Dagh published in Vienna in 1993 by the Austrian-Jewish writer Franz Werfel.








The book details the struggle of a group of Armenian villagers from Musa Dagh (Mosesв Mountain) as they attempt to defend themselves against the Ottoman Turkish army hell-bent on deporting them to the death camps of Syria during the 1915 Armenian Genocide in which 1.5million Armenians were murdered.








Contesting Stalloneвs intentions, the Turkish government has heavily criticised him, as have various organs of the Turkish state and Turkish groups across the globe. Turkey strongly denies that the Armenians suffered genocide despite it being a well-established fact. To date around 30,000 people of Turkish descent have written to Mr. Stallone encouraging him not to shoot the film.
