Get Rid of The Friend of the Court sign now

Get Rid of the FOC! Our tax dollars are better spent using accounting firms with checks and balances and Parenting Time Coordinators than funding an organization that is not helpful nor professional. They are not even required to send a yearly statement to individuals that they have collected from or paid to. Child support is NOT Welfare Reform! Cut out the middle man. Parenting Time Coordinators are paid for by service, meaning that if you don't need or use them, you don't PAY for them unlike the FOC. When attempting to discuss custody or parenting time issues with representatives of the FOC, parents are left waiting in lobbies and not given any opportunity to make appointments. The FOC stand on enforcement is solely to collect funds not to enforce violations to current Parenting Time Orders. They suggest filing more motions in order to have enforcement of current Orders. Links from The Michigan Supreme Court web-site clearly show the inadequacies of the FOC policies, practices and accounting methods. Promises from the Attorney General on the issue have gone unfulfilled and men are left to suffer the consequences brought on by bias court systems. Father's that want to participate in their children's lives are tossed aside and are denied joint physical custody in order for the court to maintain the collection of child support. Men are made to fear the repercussion of the court system just for trying to stand up for their rights as fathers. We are not talking about dead-beat dads, we're talking about caring individuals that have the right to spend time with their children but are given very little parenting time because of bad advice from attorneys and instilled fears of fighting the court systems due to the consequences that might befall them from doing so. Both men and women have the obligation and responsibility to care and pay for themselves and their children. Each case where custody was awarded based on "stable" environment in which the non-custodial parent wants to have joint physical custody needs to be readdressed. It is a fact that men are tricked, mislead, or out right encouraged to allow their children to stay in a temporary custody situation with the mother and then are refused joint physical custody based on what the court considered a stable environment. That is not only ludicrous but infuriating. The average family income in Michigan is $68,602 based on the U.S. Census Bureau web-site: http://www.census.gov/hhes/income/4person.html. If both parents make at least that amount, what is the need for child support enforcement anyway? Each are doing individually better than the average family to begin with. If one parent makes less than the average income per state then the difference between the two should be considered when determining the support. In cases where both parents would like custody, then each should be given the same opportunity and obligation to provide for and share in their children's lives. This approach just might change the custody battles. Today custody battles are about bitter tactics or related directly to receiving money and not about the children. This has to stop and the source of encouragement is the FOC. Statistics clearly show that states that commonly award joint physical custody has seen a decrease in divorce rate. Eliminate the roadblock that is adding fuel to the already volatile divorce process.
