Georgia Smart Meters Moratorium and Opt-Out Provision sign now

Lt. Governor Casey Cagle
Secretary of State Brian Kemp
Georgia PSC Commissioners: Tim Echols, Stan Wise, Chuck Eaton, Doug Everett, Lauren McDonald

This petition,Georgia Smart Meters Moratorium and an Opt-Out Provision,is signed and submitted by legal Georgia residents.

"Smart Meters do not save energy. Smart Meters collect data, and ultimately, regulate energy usage and consumption. The Smart Meter is a component of the energy industrys Smart Grid Concept which is at the center of its long-range plans to lower its overhead costs, to increase its profits and to charge the consumers more. Although the future will inevitably require technology upgrades, WIRELESS technology is not inevitable nor is it required.

The stated objectives of the Smart Grid Program can be accomplished without transmitting meters. Switching to "WiseGrid" solutions based on regionally appropriate mixes of renewable energy sources, guided by efficiency and conservation is a more appropriate action. The WiseGrid solution can be realized without the potential health, environmental, privacy and security hazards posed by wireless, invasive metering systems.

In addition to the ignored or suppressed reports of the safety issues surrounding Smart Meters, the lack of formal scientific studies and their data in the areas of safety, health, environment and economics require that the following actions take place:

An immediate moratorium be placed on the mandatory installation of these smart meters and the wireless technology development. This moratorium should be in place until the solutions to the concerns listed above become a priority and can be guaranteed.

We demand that an Opt-Out provision be made available in Georgia Powers Smart Meter Program. Those citizens choosing to Opt-Out can do so without fear of the following reprisals from Georgia Power or any other energy utility company: (1)NO monetary consequences, (2)NO interruptions or degradation of services, and (3)NO denial of existing equipment maintenance.

Please join with us in doing what is right for the good people of Georgia. Stop the implementation of the "mandatory" Smart Meters and implement an Opt-Out Provision. This is America, a free Constitutional Republic. American citizens have the right to decide if they want this technology installed on their homes, the right to deny permission for installation, the right to protect their private property, the right to be treated fairly, and the right to act upon these truths.
