Freedom to Believe Pledge: In Support of Freedom of Worship, Religion, and Conscience for All

Those of us responsible for equality and liberty support the unqualified, universal human rights of all people, including freedom of worship, freedom of religion, and freedom of conscience, including the right to choose whether or not to accept any organized religion or higher power. We support the human right for all to have the freedom to believe what they choose in their hearts and in their minds, without compulsion, without threats, without harassment, and without oppression.

Americans respect Amendment 1 to the Constitution of the United States of America that states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." It is an inherent part of the definition of what it means to be an American to respect the freedom of religion, freedom of worship, and freedom of conscience of all people - not just those we like and not just those like us.

Those of us responsible for equality and liberty also support Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, without qualification: "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance."

Freedom of worship, freedom of religion, and freedom of conscience, the right to believe in what we see fit, is an inherent, unalienable human right for all.

While we all have differing political views, and we may or may not disagree with political views of various religious groups, we are united in defending their freedom of worship, freedom of religion, and freedom of conscience as an unqualified, universal human right. We do not protest against or seek to deny such fundamental human rights of freedom of worship, freedom of religion, and freedom of conscience to any of our fellow human beings.

We support such freedoms for all, and reject all efforts by others to seek to deny such freedoms.

We are responsible for equality and liberty.
