Free the Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor prisoners in Libya!

Together against the capital punishment, the Avocats sans frontiиres France (the French section of Lawyers without Borders) and the Moroccan Prison Observatory have launched an urgent appeal to free the five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor imprisonated faultily in Libya.

Christiana, Valia, Valentina, Nasia, Snezhana, the Bulgarian nurses, and Ashraf, the Palestinian doctor are kept in prison for 7 years now and they still risk the capital punishment.

Lets take action to demand their release!

On the 9th February 1999, five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor were arrested and accused for having inoculated hundreds of children hospitalized in the Benghazi Pediatric Hospital (Libya) with the AIDS virus. Towards the end of a deceptive and rigged trial, in which the rights of the defence were violated, through physical and psychological tortures, and when some eminent Libyan and international specialists (among them Professor Luc Montagnier), confirmed that these accusations were not soundly based, the nurses and the doctor were condemned to capital punishment. On the 25th of December 2005 the Supreme Court of Libya cancelled the sentence of death punishment, but ordered a new trial to be conducted. There is still a risk of death penalty infliction.

In this case, innocent people have been appointed as a scapegoat by the Libyan government, the victims of a political machination whose, unfortunately frequent, instrument is the capital punishment. Moreover, Maоtres Emmanuel Altit, Antoine Alexiev, Mariela Petrova, Ivan Paneff, the lawyers at the Barreau de Paris (Paris bar) and defendants of the nurses, have met the worst difficulties in carrying out their mission: visa refusal, obstacles to go to Libya, impossibility to get access to a copy of the whole dossier. Avocats sans frontiиres speaks of a real judicial murder.
The international public cannot remain silent.

We call on political people, personalities, organizations, lawyers, European and African people, and the citizens of the whole world, to join us in our request for their immediate release.
We solicit the Libyan authorities for the immediate release of Christiana Malinova Valcheva, Valia Georgieva Cherveniashka, Nasia Stoitcheva Nenova, Valentina Manolova Siropulo, Snezhana Ivanova Dimitrova and Ashraf Ahmad Jum'a and the abolition of capital punishment.

Signatures will be deposed at the Libyan embassy in Paris in the day of the new court audience.
