Free Aung San Suu Kyi sign now

Dear friend

Aung San Suu Kyi has completed ten years in prison in Myanmar. Her offence is that she has relentlessly fought for democracy in her country. She did not leave her country even when her British husband was dying of cancer. She apprehended that she might not be allowed to return to her homeland. Her party National League for Democracy (NLD) convincingly won the elections in May, 1990 but the military junta, which had seized power in a coup there, annulled the results and refused to hand over power to her.

Aung San Suu Kyi carries on the legacy of her father, Myanmar's independence hero, Gen Aung San who was assassinated in July 1947. She is an alumnus of Delhi and Oxford Universities and deserves the support of the international community. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992.

Through this petition, which would be submitted to the UN, ASEAN and other world leaders, we demand that the international community exert pressure on military junta to release her and to restore democracy in Myanmar immediately.

Please sign this petition in support and circulate it among all those who consider the cause of democracy and human rights sacrosanct worldwide.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
