Forest Park Elementary School Overload Situation sign now

Dear President Ms Lara York and other members of the board

Re: Overload situation at Forest Park Elementary School

We, parents of Ardenwood neighborhood, are writing to you to raise our concerns about ongoing overload situation at Forest Park Elementary school and to request addition of a new class for Kindergarten.

For last three years, the overload situation is getting worse year over year at the Forest Park elementary school. The number of overloaded students in Kindergarten has gone from one student to over eighty nine students last year. This year as per the results of registration lottery, only 33\% of applications were granted admission to the school which has disappointed a very large number of residents in the school area whose children are going to be overloaded to another school.

As per the home sales data over past few years, Ardenwood area has become increasing popular because of the home price decrease combined with better API score of Forest Park Elementary School and this trend is likely to stay as is for next several years.

Also the overload schools in vicinity are not quite comparable in terms of API scores with Forest Park Elementary school. For example, the API score of Forest Park is 966 while no other school in the same attendance area (AHS) is having such a good API score. In fact the overload schools that were picked last year and year before has a score of less than 850. This seems unfair to children who did not get admission to Forest Park Elementary school even though they live within the school boundary.

The growing anxiety over the overload situation has caused concerns for residents who rent homes in the area and who may be inclined to move to other cities to provide education to their children in schools with higher API scores. Many of the residents who rent their homes in the area have indicated that they have been paying much higher rent (compared to other parts of Fremont) to live in the area so that they can get admission to Forest Park Elementary school. It seems quite reasonable to ensure higher enrollment to schools with higher API scores so that children of the community receives better education which will eventually promote or sustain economic growth. In this economic condition, cities which have seen more migration out of the city have suffered more severely.

We strongly believe that addition of a class in the Forest Park Elementary school for Kindergarten will be a big step towards solving this problem for a longer term. We also believe that higher enrollment in Forest Park Elementary school will be beneficial to both the school district and the community. We urge that school board reviews the situation and think deeply about this request from the residents of the area and take the necessary actions.
