For Graduation at Chesapeake High School sign now

"As you all might be aware, the graduation meeting that took place at the school was a complete travesty. After going back and forth on several issues, she was finally forced to admit that the final decision had already been made and that the $500 deposit on the Equestrian Center was non-refundable. From then on chaos ensued, and Mrs. Plitt shamefully escorted herself from the building. A group of about ten concerned adults met afterwards and, while unsure on a plan, will not lie down and take this injustice to a privelege we have taken 4 years to earn."

"As a student and future graduate at CHS I implore you, please contact the Anne Arundel County Board of Education and let them know how you feel. We also need to contact the news paper and get this out there.

This is our future - we should have some say in the matter. Get fired up people! We need to band together and be heard."

"I personally just went to the meeting with Ms. Plitt, and I just wanted to let everyone know that SHE made this decsion to change gradutation WITHOUT ANYONE knowing, including our class president! And she used OUR CLASS' MONEY; $500 of it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get your parents involved... The opinion of THE STUDENTS should be the deciding factor not the PRINCIPLE!"

We The Undersigned would like to voice our opinions on the issue of where the Chesapeake High School class of 2008 (and beyond) will graduate. A vast majority of the student body would strongly prefer to graduate on school grounds, where our brothers and sisters and upper-classmen friends have graduated for the past 30-some years, while another, smaller ammount would prefer to graduate at the Equestrian Center, an hour away though with ample seating. This petition is a campaign for keeping Chesapeake graduation at Chesapeake High School. We feel that it is the tradition, the convenience, and the simple magic of walking across a stage in front of the past four years of our lives, to feel so completely the same but to be so completely different, which bond us so tightly to this tradition. It is a feeling one simply cannot get from a horserace track. It is a feeling that, under the ruling of Mrs. Plitt, we are forced to fight for. And we hope to win.
