Fix the Internet sign now

We are Brooklyn Law School students or those whose ideas and philosophies are in line with this petition and its end-goal. We are formally requesting that action be taken to completely overhaul the current Brooklyn Law School internet services. The internet service provided by BLS is faulty. Students using the wireless service are consistently knocked off-line or prevented from signing on due to a weak or sometimes non-existent signal. Frequently, even when we have successfully logged on to the server, the server is not functioning properly. On multiple occasions, communication has been cut off between BLS and outside servers prohibiting the sending and receiving of e-mails as well as any functional application of web browsers.

We realize that this is neither the fault of Brooklyn Law Schools Information Technology department nor any other Brooklyn Law School department. It is the fault of the system. It is antiquated and fails to serve the needs to a Law School an institution dedicated to the study and research of Law. Without being able to access crucial programs such as Westlaw or Lexis we are unable to research law. Without being able to contact outside servers we are unable to research anything else. Without being able to use our e-mail as a dependable form of communication, we are risking missed e-mails from our fellow students, faculty, friends, and most importantly, potential employers. Because we do not have a Proxy Server, students living off campus are unable to enjoy the benefits afforded to those students on campus, such as Hein online and the Oxford English Dictionary, to name a few.

In the year 2006 Brooklyn Law School has failed to do what is expected of a professional institution: create and maintain a functional server with wi-fi capabilities to serve its student body. Paying tuition fees of up to $34,875 (those of us living at feil pay an additional "technology fee"), we find this situation unacceptable and in dire need of change. We appreciate your giving this matter the utmost consideration and look forward to any forthcoming improvements.
