Fix Red Duck Creek Now sign now
We, the undersigned citizens, represent those whom are either directly affected or very concerned about the recurring flooding problem that exists in the flood zones surrounding Red Duck Creek. There are many residents throughout the city that have been negatively affected by this flooding problem which has led to devastating losses amassed over the years. Most recently there have been two major floods in just the past five years.(2003 & 2006)
With regard to future flooding there are solutions that can be put into place by using both local resources and federal grants. On November 19th 2003, U.S. Senator Jim Bunning announced that he secured $100,000 to conduct a study of Red Duck Creek in Mayfield, Kentucky. Of the $100,000 requested, $60,000 would be used to initiate a feasibility level study with an emphasis on identifying at least one economically justifiable and environmentally acceptable solution to the flooding along Red Duck Creek and $40,000 would be used to initiate planning, design, and analysis issue activities for protection of the city road that parallels the creek.
We, the undersigned citizens, are requesting action from our local government agencies to move forward in providing relief to our area and to aid in the prevention of future flooding. Whether it be the revival of an already existing plan, or the development of a new plan to provide both immediate and long-term relief. We are calling for the Mayor and City Council to move forward with measures that will bring about an immediate resolution to this problem.
